The Other Virus

Unlike the Corona Virus that none of us were privy to before November of 2019. This particular virus has been infecting and killing people for a very long time. Different from COVID-19 there is not much confusion on the individuals that this virus threatens. The age, sex, religion, and socioeconomic status may differ, but the race is unwavering. There are no underlying conditions in these people that cause them to be more susceptible to this virus other than the color of their skin. What has been going on for years in the darkness has been been coming more visible to the light. However, the frustration, anger, and pain has always been prevalent just muffled. Yes, it is not rare to see people of all different races socializing and integrating with one another. But the profiling and stigma still only holds burden to one. This virus has attacked many generations and has only gotten more aggressive for all eyes to see. As in everything in life the actions of people do reach a turning point and we have exceeded pass that point, it is time for accountability. If you were blind to it before everyone across the world should now see. This virus isn’t going anywhere without some major changes. We all have to share this world so why not get acquainted with each other. You just might learn how we are more alike than different. It will be uncomfortable for many. With some serious sanitizing, self-quarantining and a whole new normal on how people of color will be treated. If we can take special precautions for our current pandemic why not for this one? Every human being deserves the right to be treated with respect and compassion. Ignorance and dominance is what built and kept these barriers up. And now that this virus Racism has everyones full attention it is time for a vaccine. As in every race and under every uniform there is a clear distinction from good people and bad people. And a whole group shouldn’t have to carry someone else’s label across their back solely based on their outer appearance. But acknowledge that certain groups have more of an opportunity of presenting themselves beyond their veneer. The events over the last couple of days have been tragic and the destruction in the streets unproductive but this virus Racism has been way more catastrophic and corrupt. You should only take offense if you or someone that you are close to is a carrier and you make the conscience choice to spread this virus.
